Kaduna Records Outstanding Showing At North-West Zonal Elimination


Kaduna State has recorded an impressive performance at the North-West Zonal Elimination of the National Intermediate Games, held from September 9 to 12,  2026 at Murtala Muhammed Square, Kaduna, securing qualification in six team-sport disciplines.


The competition, hosted by Kaduna State under the administration of Governor Senator Uba Sani, CON, through the Ministry of Sports Development, brought together five North-West states: Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara.


Kaduna finished first in Beach Volleyball (Male and Female), Volleyball Female, Handball Male, Cricket (Male and Female), Hockey and Basketball, while placing second in Volleyball Male.


The strong performance underscores Kaduna’s growing strength in grassroots sports and the State Government’s commitment to talent identification, athlete development and welfare.


Speaking on the achievement, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports Development, Mrs. Dorcas Inti Benjamin Tanko, commended Governor Uba Sani, CON, for his commitment to sports development, noting that his administration has strengthened sporting infrastructure and support for athletes and coaches.


She highlighted the completion of the upgrade of Kaduna Township Stadium, the reconstruction of Ahmadu Bello Stadium, which will increase its capacity from 16,000 to 33,000 spectators, as well as the provision for performance allowances for athletes and coaches in the 2026 approved State budget, as major interventions supporting sports development.


She said the investments are creating a stronger foundation for identifying, nurturing and developing young sporting talents, while improving the conditions for athletes and coaches to prepare and compete effectively.


The successful hosting of the zonal elimination at Murtala Muhammed Square further reinforces Kaduna’s growing status as a regional sporting hub. 


The improved security situation under the Uba Sani administration has also strengthened confidence in Kaduna as a safe and conducive destination for major sporting competitions.

TNNM Moves To Hold Leaders Accountable, Inaugurates Kaduna Chapter

Customs FOU Zone ‘B’ Cracks Down On Smugglers Of Endangered Species

*Unit intercepts live pangolins along Kano–Jigawa axis The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘B’, has intercepted two live pangolins being illegally transported along the Kano–Jigawa axis.   This was disclosed in a statement signed by the  CPRO  FOU Zone B, CSC NA Saidu, made available on Tuesday.   It informed that the arrest occurred on March 12, 2026 at about 10:00 hours. Operatives of the Unit, during a stop-and-search operation, flagged down the vehicle as part of a proactive enforcement sweep.   The seizure was effected pursuant to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), an international agreement that prohibits trade threatening the survival of wild species.   Upon interception, the animals were secured in appropriate cages and conveyed to the FOU Zone ‘B’ headquarters in Kaduna.
