Securing Nigeria's Borders: Customs FOU Zone B, Makes Notable Seizures


*Hails extension of CGC tenure



The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone 'B' under the stewardship of Comptroller A.M. Alkali  has continued its robust efforts to combat smuggling, culminating in a significant seizure of foreign parboiled rice and the handover of seized medicaments and chemicals to partner agencies.


A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer Federal Operations Unit Zone B, Chief Superintendent of Customs, Saidu Nuruddeen, made available on Wednesday, said that these actions are part of the unit's ongoing commitment to enforcing customs laws, protecting local industries, and safeguarding public health and the environment.

"On August 3, 2025, an operatives of the Unit acting on actionable intelligence intercepted a Daf tanker truck along Yauri-Kontagora Road, in Kebbi State, the team escorted the vehicle to Kaduna for a thorough physical examination. 

"Upon examination, it was discovered that 250 bags of foreign parboiled rice were concealed inside the tanker, which were subsequently seized. The duty paid value for the seized rice stands at twenty million, five hundred and ten thousand Naira only," it said.

According  to the statement, the Comptroller FOU 'B' commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism. 

He emphasized the Unit's dedication to using proactive surveillance and intelligence to suppress smuggling activities and protect Nigeria's economic interests.

He further expressed  profound appreciation to the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adeniyi MFR, and his management team for their unwavering support and also extended a heartfelt congratulations to the CGC, on the recent extension of his tenure by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR. 

Comptroller Alkali described the extension as a testament to the CGC's visionary leadership, professional excellence, and contributions to repositioning the NCS in line with global best practices. 

"In a separate but related effort to foster inter-agency collaboration, the FOU Zone B, in line with the CGC's directive, the unit also officially handed over seized items to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) on July 17, 2025.

"The handover included 58,740 sachets of 100mg & 50mg medicaments and 27 cartons of Analgin injection to the Director, NAFDAC Kaduna State Command; while 3 sacks of Riodin chemical, containing 990 pieces to the Head of NESREA Kaduna State Office," the statement informed.

It added that the collaborative action highlights the unit's comprehensive approach to enforcement and its commitment to public safety and environmental preservation.

Comptroller Alkali appreciated the continuous support and cooperation from the public as the operatives of the unit work tirelessly to secure the nation's borders and contribute meaningfully to the growth of Nigeria's economy.
